The Scottish Great Claymore Sword |
|
| |
| Celebrate the majesty of medieval Scotland with The Great Claymore Sword. Throughout history, tales have been told of strong, kilt-clad men from the Highlands who downed formidable foes with one swing from a mighty two-handed Great Claymore Sword. Before 1745 the Highlanders were descended from Celtic origins with dashes of Norse, Flemish, and Norman blood. The Lowlanders were more Germanic English and other European racially-mixed blood. Since the king's were perennially of lowland origin, the clash of cultures was inevitable and led to the bloody ethnic cleansing of the Highlanders. Designed by the Highlanders, the sword was also used in the constant clan warfare and border fights with the English from 1450 to 1745. Every able-bodied man in the Highlands carried arms and never went anywhere without them. The Claymore was widely feared because its lightness made it faster in combat than its European counterparts. It was said that the bearer of a Great Claymore Sword needed no shield because the reach of the sword provided its own protection. Each of these stunning reproductions is individually made with a solid hand-forged carbon steel blade and pommel. The hardwood handle features a traditional spiraled design. The sword measures 50 inches and includes a black leather scabbard. |
